The western half of the 10-mile reconstruction project was closed on Jan. 2 and will be closed for one year. The eastern half will be closed in 2009. The study will analyze economic impacts to businesses along the route, economic impacts to drivers in terms of productivity and gasoline costs and the effectiveness of MoDOT’s public communication efforts during both closures. After the full reconstruction is completed in 2010, the study will assess impacts of the rebuilt interstate segment.
The study includes interviews with business owners and area chambers of commerce, questionnaires mailed to households in the area’s 70 ZIP codes, and an online survey motorists can use to provide details about their commutes. The survey is located on the I-64 project website, www.thenewi64.org. Preliminary findings should be posted on the site by summer 2008.
