The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has begun posting current travel times to various Jersey Shore destinations through NJDOT’s 511NJ web page and phone system.
By visiting 511nj.org or calling 5-1-1, motorists will see or hear current trip times to Jersey Shore destinations that reflect up-to-the-minute traffic conditions. Travel-time information will be provided along three main corridors to the shore: the Garden State Parkway, I-195 and the Atlantic City Expressway.
In the future, similar information will be posted online and offered over the phone for trips along other state highways.
“Real-time trip information gives New Jersey residents and visitors the ability to avoid or at least limit exposure to roadway congestion by adjusting departure times,” said Commissioner James Simpson. “This is just a first step in our plan to use technology to give motorists the tools to better manage their travel plans throughout the state.”
On www.511nj.org, visitors will see an updated, dynamic list of travel times to and from the Raritan Toll Plaza (Sayreville) via the Garden State Parkway; Trenton via I-195 and the Garden State Parkway; and Camden via the Atlantic City Expressway and Garden State Parkway.
By simply clicking the “down arrow” in the upper right-hand corner of the widget, visitors can choose any one of these locations and the list will repopulate with current travel times to or from that location.
On the 5-1-1 phone system, callers will hear an additional menu option called “Shore Traffic.” When a caller asks for Shore Traffic, they will hear a list of choices for travel times, in both directions, along the Garden State Parkway, I-195 and the Atlantic City Expressway.
After each travel time is played, the caller will also have the ability to request details about an incident or congestion that may be happening along these roadways.
