Earth Tech to lead design of northeast Calgary Ring Road extension

Earth Tech Inc., Long Beach, Calif., has been selected to serve as the lead designer for the multi-million dollar northeast extension of the Calgary Ring Road in Calgary, Alberta, by a consortium that will design, build, finance and operate the project for Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation (AIT). Earth Tech, a business unit of Tyco International Ltd., is a global provider of consulting, engineering and construction services.

AIT has awarded the project, which includes 13 miles of four- and six-lane highway and 23 bridge structures, including six interchanges, to the Stoney Trail Group (STG), a concessionaire led byBilfinger Berger BOT. Earth Tech will provide design services for the Stoney Trail Constructors (STC), a joint venture that has been selected by STG to lead the project. STC consists of Flatiron, Graham and Parsons.

"This project is an excellent example of what can be accomplished when public and private organizations come together to improve our transportation infrastructure," said Paul Bassi, vice president of Earth Tech's Western Canada District. "Our local design experience and history of completing complex transportation projects for AIT will help ensure the mobility of people and goods through this heavily traveled area."

This public-private partnership process will provide the government of Alberta with a significant freeway asset for a fixed price on an aggressive schedule. Construction on the phased project is scheduled to begin in spring 2007 and be completed by fall 2009.
