“Big Dig” producing big benefits

The report, “Economic Impacts of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and the Central Artery/Third Harbor Tunnel Project,” concluded that the project, will add 43,000 jobs, $7 billion in private investment, 2,600 hotel rooms and many other economic benefits.

The report also touted improved traffic conditions prompted by the project. In 1980 it was projected that the project would improve traffic flow through Boston by 40% by the year 2010. So far the project has recorded a 62% improvement in traffic flow. Overall traffic volume has grown 23.5% since 1995.
