The Construction Writers Association (CWA) honored Roads & Bridges magazine at its annual meeting awards ceremony on May 2 in Washington, D.C. Editorial Director Bill Wilson won the 2007 Robert F. Boger Award for Editorials (honorable mention) for his July 2006 column titled "Step on it."

The piece used the presence of the Hine's emerald dragonfly on the I-355 extension project in Lemont, Ill., as an example on how environmental streamlining in the highway and bride construction industry still has a long way to go. The insect is on the federally endangered species list, and construction crews had to take extra precautionary measures at the jobsite. Environmental groups used the dragonfly to hold construction for 10 years.

Wilson has won three Boger Awards since 2001.

"It is always flattering to receive praise from the colleagues in your industry," said Wilson. "This just serves as another example of the efforts we take to provide our readership with quality editorial."

The CWA is a non-profit, non-partisan, international organization for professional journalists, writers, editors and publicists serving the information needs of the construction industry.
