The children of six highway workers killed in the line of duty will receive financial assistance in their pursuit of higher education thanks to scholarships announced by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association's Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF).
Students from Kentucky, Oregon, Georgia, Iowa, Montana and Michigan have been named as 2003 recipients of the ARTBA-TDF's Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship program was established in 1999 with a gift to the foundation from two Roanoke, Va., highway contractors and their companies--Stan Lanford, president of Lanford Brothers, and Jack Lanford, president of the Adams Construction Co. Both men are past chairmen of the national association.
This year's scholarship winners are: Ronnie and Kristin Cooper, Hanlontown, Iowa; Daniel Doyle, Sault Saint Marie, Mich.; Christopher Henderson, Lancaster, Ky.; Peter and David Howland, Portland, Ore.; Juliet Gassett Hobbs, Thomaston, Ga.; and Jessie Patterson, East Helena, Mont.
