LoJack Corp. announced the results of its 2001 theft statistics report, based on the company's recovery experiences in 2001 and focusing on stolen construction equipment.
Based upon LoJack's findings, rubber tire equipment is most likely to be stolen because it can be driven away under its own power. In 2001, LoJack found that skid steers, backhoes, generators and air compressors were the most popular targets for thieves, accounting for 67% of all LoJack-equipped construction equipment recovered in 2001.
The construction industry lost close to $1 billion last year due to theft of construction equipment and tools.
