HNTB Corp. has announced that Steve Rhoades is joining the firm as senior vice president and will serve as president of the firm's Northeast Division. Rhoades' responsibilities will include oversight of HNTB's transportation planning, highway and bridge design services in this region.

HNTB Corp. has announced that Steve Rhoades is joining the firm as senior vice president and will serve as president of the firm's Northeast Division. Rhoades' responsibilities will include oversight of HNTB's transportation planning, highway and bridge design services in this region. HNTB's Northeast Division consists of offices in Boston, New York, Maine, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Rhoades joins HNTB from the Metropolitan District Commission of Hartford, Conn., where he served as chief executive officer. He retired in November 2002 as a brigadier general in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he served as commander of the North Atlantic Division based in Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, N.Y. As commander of the division, Rhoades was responsible for a $2.4 billion annual program of civil works, military construction and programs for others from Maine through Virginia.

Throughout his career, Rhoades has held many command and general staff assignments, including chief of staff and then deputy commanding general at the U.S. Army Engineer Center and Fort Leonard Wood. During Operation Desert Storm, Rhoades commanded an engineering battalion in the Person Gulf with the 24th Infantry Division. He also served in the Balkans for more than a year as the engineer brigade commander with the 1st Infantry Division.
