The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is preparing to implement a new internal paperless data exchange system designed to reduce administrative costs and expedite contractor payments. The project, known as Construction Submittal Interface (CSI), begins throughout the department in February following a two-month pilot program. GDOT officials say it will eliminate countless hours of paperwork and produce significant savings for the state's taxpayers.
"This will be a tremendous tool," GDOT Construction Director Glenn Durrence said. "We'll be able to thoroughly analyze contractor reports more quickly and more effectively. With CSI, our staff will be more productive and, not just contractors, but all Georgia taxpayers will benefit."
The web-based application program accelerates the payment process to contractors on completed construction projects or project segments by eliminating the time-consuming need to circulate reams of documentation paperwork among field offices across the state and various departments in GDOT's Atlanta general office. Instead, the on-site GDOT project manager will confirm and enter the necessary information from a contractor into the CSI software. This will afford GDOT departments a more timely, efficient review and processing of the contractor submissions.
