The International Slurry Surfacing Association (ISSA) honored Ballou Construction Co., Inc. with its 2003 President's Award for Excellence. The presentation was made during ISSA's 41st Annual Convention in Phoenix, Ariz., and the award was presented by outgoing ISSA President Chris Anspaugh.

ISSA's annual President's Award is made in recognition of contracting achievements which exemplify the highest quality of workmanship and compliance with the best standards of practice. Roadway projects submitted for consideration are judged on the merits of utility, appearance, schedule completion, customer satisfaction and safety.

Ballou Construction qualified for the award after completion of its work on a 7-1/2 mile stretch of U.S. 287 near Waxahachie, Texas, that included microsurfacing. Among the challenges posed were high traffic volume and a greasy, rutted existing surface. The project included base repair, planing and asphalt concrete inlay, microsurfacing, shoulder texturing and pavement markings.
