Fred Ode, owner and founder of Foundation Software Inc., will demonstrate how contractors can "Build a More Profitable Construction Business One Report at a Time" at the 89th annual convention of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). Ode's presentation will be held on March 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev. The session was designed to help construction owners and managers understand which reports they should be analyzing and how to interpret the information.

Focusing on basic management level reports, Ode will provide insight into how this data can be used to run and improve a construction business. Following a logical tour of the numbers behind a successful company, the session will start with an analysis of traditional financial reports and progress to complex job costing reports. Using sample reports, Ode will explains how to quickly and easily produce such reports as overhead allocation, gross profit, over/under billing and cash flow by job.

"Most contractors do not come into this business with an accounting background or expertise," Ode said. "But that doesn't mean they cannot learn to master the numbers knowledge needed to compete in today's construction market." He added that not only will the course identify which reports contractors should be using, but also the role each report plays for better decision making internally and better interactions with outside entities such as banks and sureties.
