Ga. DOT executes massive I-95 project

I-95 is the main highway along the East Coast of the U.S., running from Miami all the way to the Canadian border in Maine. It is the longest north-south interstate highway, spanning 1,925 miles while passing through 15 states, more than any other interstate. One of the states I-95 passes through is Georgia, and it’s on this stretch of highway in Glynn, McIntosh and Bryan counties where several highway improvement projects contracted by the Georgia DOT just wrapped up.

In 2008 multiple general contractors were awarded four projects along I-95 for the purpose of lane widening and paving. One of these general contractors, Triad Supply & Services Inc. from Pembroke, Ga., laid a total of 396,251 linear feet of a Crafco product called PavePrep SA over the concrete joints. The self-adhesive geo composite membrane was applied to waterproof the joints. While Triad was busy applying the membrane another contractor that was putting down asphalt was following it.

While laboring on these projects, much more work could be accomplished during the daytime hours. The inside lanes would be closed to traffic and approximately 30,000 ft (almost 6 miles) would be completed. The nighttime work consisted of completing about 10,000 ft (2 miles) due to the fact that these sections of interstate needed to be open to traffic for the peak traffic times. The work ran continuously day and night, only breaking for weather conditions, from 2008 until early 2011.

Triad will be doing additional work on I-95 in Bryan County later this year and will soon be traveling to Bibb County for yet another interstate project involving the use of the geo composite membrane.
