Visitors to the World of Concrete 2004 next month will be able to see if concrete looks any different under the Florida sunshine. The concrete industry will be gathering in Orlando for their biggest event of the year. World of Concrete expects to attract about 60,000 construction professionals to more than 1,500 exhibiting companies covering 700,000 sq ft of floor space. The show will be held, along with World of Masonry, Feb. 17-20 at the Orange County Convention Center.
Nine topic tracks encompass 96 seminars, including 26 seminars that will be presented for the first time this year. (See accompanying sidebar for a complete list of seminars.) Seminars offer innovative ideas, tips and techniques to write winning bids, cut costs, save time, increase profits and build a business. Seminar participants attending four seminars in a specialized subject area or track are eligible for a Master Certificate.
Mega Demos will showcase the latest construction equipment, materials and techniques by demonstrating them in jobsite conditions. The Placing Jamboree Mega Demo will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Experts will demonstrate what's new for placing concrete and pumping grout. Concrete Overlays will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 18, and will show how to overlay a deteriorating road. The process is shown from start to finish, including surface preparation, preoverlay repair, placing and finishing. On Thursday, Feb. 19, the Demolition Derby will demonstrate new products for demolishing concrete, such as the slabs and walls produced in earlier Mega Demos.
Show-goers can watch the demos from the bleachers or they can get their hands dirty trying before they buy at the outdoor exhibits.
The Industry Insights program will again be offered after a successful introduction at last year's show. These informative, free sessions are about current trends and techniques, such as above-grade concrete housing and global positioning systems. Led by industry experts, Industry Insights are designed to help participants identify and understand the changes and opportunities facing today's businesses.
Other notable events include the Most Innovative Products Contest. The Masons' Challenge will feature the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 Competition and the Tenders' Competition. Concrete Construction magazine will again present Artistry in Decorative Concrete, minidemos of the latest techniques for concrete slabs including chemical staining, tints and dyes, sand-blasted stenciling, concrete stamping and decorative overlays.
World of Concrete 2004 is presented by Hanley-Wood Exhibitions, Dallas. The latest information about the show is available at the World of Concrete website (www.worldofconcrete.com).
