The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will begin construction on Monday to revitalize a key stretch of Interstate 215 and surrounding routes in Salt Lake County, with work expected to run through fall 2026.

The work is part of a broader initiative to enhance safety, reduce long-term maintenance needs and improve regional mobility, according to UDOT.

Starting this week, northbound I‑215 between State Route201 and North Temple will be reduced to three lanes to protect the work zone. That closure will remain in place through next year. In early August, both northbound and southbound traffic will be reduced to three lanes in each direction so crews can work in the median

UDOT is reconstructing three miles of I‑215 from State Route 201 to North Temple, upgrading 14 miles of ramps on State Route 201, Interstate 80 and California Avenue, and rehabilitating 22 bridges to extend the life of the critical corridor.

Funded at approximately $190 million, the two‑year project includes rubblization of roadway surfaces, selective bridge deck removal using hydro‑demolition and drainage system upgrades for longevity

UDOT reminds drivers that construction schedules are weather‑dependent and subject to change. For the latest information on traffic restrictions during construction, visit the UDOT Traffic website or download the UDOT Traffic app.
