Portion of Route 66 to Shut Down for Culvert Box Replacement

Aug. 22, 2024
A newer, reinforced model will be installed during the 65-day shut down

A section of U.S. Route 66 in Arizona will be closed for a culvert replacement next week. The Coconino County Public Works Department said the road will be inaccessible for approximately 65 days.

Construction has a price tag of $1 million. The old Volunteer Wash concrete box culvert will be replaced with a newer, reinforced model.

The contractor on the job is Tiffany Construction. The replacement will happen on weekdays. However, work may happen on weekends also.

The culvert is located between N. Cool Pines Road and N. Sherwood Forest Road.

Commuters are advised to expect delays. Detours will be put in place to bring vehicles onto E. Pittman Valley Road.

The construction site will use flaggers, detour signage, and additional traffic control measures to redirect vehicles.

The Coconino County Public Works Department said they will keep the public updated on the progress of the project.
