Construction on U.S. Route 1 to be split into three phases

As it finishes Phase 1 on its U.S. Route 1 project, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is already a year ahead of schedule. The $111 million project will be split into three phases, and it will widen and upgrade the highway in Bucks County.

Crews will be expanding U.S. Route 1 to three lanes in each direction and improving the pavement and drainage. The final paving will begin next spring.

Two new bridges are almost complete as the project heads towards Phase 2. Crews are working on the new northbound bridge at Neshaminy Creek, working on the abutments and center piers. The southbound bridge is completed.

Deck construction on the U.S. Route 1 southbound structure over the Penndel/Business 1 Interchange finished in late spring, according to PennDOT.

Construction continues this summer, focusing on the bridge’s approach pavement, completion of parapets and installation of sound walls. PennDOT says the southbound bridge is expected to be completed by late summer.

The southbound U.S. 1 bridge over Rockhill Drive is almost complete. Deck beams were set in April and deck construction is expected to finish in the fall. Parapet construction will be completed later this summer.

Phase 2 of the project aims to improve four miles of U.S. Route 1. Several bridges will be built and interchanges will be improved.

The current phase is expected to finish a year ahead of schedule, by mid-2025.
