Texas DOT to Improve Portion of I-35

Feb. 20, 2024
Improvements will span 45 miles across four counties

The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) is set to make improvements to the vital link that is Interstate 35 between San Antonio and Austin.

TXDOT is set to conduct house meetings as part of a comprehensive Planning and Environmental Linkage Study for the stretch of I-35 spanning 45 miles across Travis, Hays, Comal, and Guadalupe counties. The study aims to identify and evaluate potential improvements to address the increasing demands on this corridor which facilitates 140,000 vehicles daily along the specified section of the highway.

"I don’t think we’ve had something that links Austin and San Antonio, other than Lonestar Rail, which is basically the only thing that I’ve heard that kind of would link it, but it never really got started, so this is great, because many of us either go to San Antonio or go to Austin for work." said Christianna Johnson, a member of the "Rethink 35" group based in San Marcos, in a statement to Fox San Antonio
