The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority announced that the construction of the 183A Phase III Project begins this week along U.S. 183 in Williamson County, Texas.
This long-term mobility improvement project includes a 6.6-mile extension of the 183A Toll Road from Hero Way to just north of SH 29, with two tolled lanes in each direction. The project also includes significant non-tolled improvements, such as an adjacent shared use path from Hero Way to the Seward Junction Loop, delivering greater mobility and improved connectivity for all.
“It’s a crucial moment for the Mobility Authority and for our region,” Bobby Jenkins, Chairman of the Mobility Authority Board of Directors, said in a statement. “This project will not only meet the capacity demands that projected growth is sure to bring, but it will also ensure long-term reliability and connectivity.”
Project construction will occur primarily within the existing 183A and U.S. 183 right-of-way, mitigating some disruption to the public during construction. Construction will require temporary lane closures; primarily during off peak hours and associated with the construction of entrance/exit ramps and grade separated intersections. The Mobility Authority says economic impacts to local businesses associated with roadway access during construction are not anticipated.
The Mobility Authority this week held a virtual groundbreaking, which highlighted the history of the 183A road, the project’s background, and included contributions by some of the key stakeholders and elected officials who have supported the project through its development.
The project team said the 183A Phase III Project will build on the success of the existing 11-mile 183A Toll Road, delivering meaningful mobility relief for Williamson County and the region long into the future. Project completion is expected in 2025.
