Kentucky Awards $7.75M for Local Bridge Repairs
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced $7.75 million in funding for local bridge improvements.
The latest round of the state County and City Bridge Improvement Program goes to 17 critical bridge projects across 13 counties and three cities. The projects will repair, replace or preserve bridges to improve safety, expand structure lifespan, eliminate lengthy detours and maintain community links.
“Kentucky’s bridges don’t just connect roads, they connect our families to their jobs, schools and communities,” Beshear said in a statement. “While construction may seem like a hassle, these projects will mean safer travel, fewer traffic delays, and more potholes getting fixed. These are good things for Kentuckians.”
Awarded Kentucky localities include:
- Barren County
- Calloway County
- Crittenden County
- Gaves County
- Laurel County
- Letcher County
- Livingston County
- Marion County
- Mason County
- McCracken County
- Trigg County
- Union County
- Washington County
- City of Georgetown
- City of Winchester
- City of Wurtland
Twelve bridges will be fully replaced and five will be repaired or preserved. All structures are currently closed or under weight restrictions.
“Small counties just can’t come up with the money it takes to replace bridges this size, so we are very thankful for these funds,” Washington County Judge Timothy Graves said in a statement.
Kentucky has 3,155 bridges in need of repairs as of June 2025, according to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association.
In 2025, the County and City Bridge Improvement Program has awarded $32.6 million to local Kentucky governments for bridge work. It funded 75 city and county projects.
Local governments interested in future funding opportunities are encouraged to contact the Kentucky Department of Rural and Municipal Aid or their local Department of Highways district office for more information.
