Alabama Awards Over $3.7 Million to Local Road Projects
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced over $3.7 million in state funds awarded to cities and counties for 13 road projects.
The localities contributed more than $2.4 million in matching funds. All projects are required to move forward within a year of receiving the grants.
Funded work includes:
- Resurfacing Hardaway and Levy Avenues and Mimosa Apartment Road in Union Springs
- Resurfacing Fairfax Bypass in Valley
- Resurfacing Rogers Avenue and East and West Smith Streets in Butler
- Paving Snuffy Road in Sanford
- Resurfacing Sawmill and Holmes Streets and paving Carroll Street in Glenwood
- Full depth reclamation on Graham Street in Cullman
- Resurfacing seven city streets in Eclectic
- Resurfacing eight local streets in Belk
- Resurfacing and widening County Road 29 in Hale County
- Resurfacing 11 city streets in Bridgeport
- Resurfacing Main and 3rd Streets in Sweet Water
- Resurfacing and pavement repairs on Sanders Road in Eva
- Resurfacing County Road 868 in Randolph County
The money comes from this year’s final round of funding from ALDOT’s Annual Grant Program, which sets aside at least $10 million annually for local projects. Since 2019, it has awarded over $70 million for more than 500 road and bridge works.
The Annual Grant Program’s funding comes from the state’s share of gas tax revenue.
“We are delivering on that promise to make meaningful investments in local roads and bridges across the state,” Gov. Kay Ivey said in a statement. “I am proud to say that Alabama is keeping our commitment to safer, stronger and more connected communities.”
Any classified road or bridge open to public traffic is eligible for ALDOT’s Annual Grant Program.
