Kansas Opens Applications for State-Funded Transportation Projects
The Kansas Department of Transportation is accepting applications for its latest round of state funding for local construction projects.
KDOT’s Cost Share Program gives financial aid to both urban and rural projects that increase safety, support job retention and growth, improve access or mobility, relieve congestion and better Kansas’ transportation systems.
“Our communities know their transportation needs best, and the Cost Share Program gives them the agency to address those challenges head-on,” Kansas Secretary of Transportation Calvin Reed said in a news release. “KDOT is dedicated to this partnership, creating effective, local solutions that deliver transportation that keeps Kansans moving forward.”
All types of transportation projects are eligible, including highway, local road, bridge, rail, airport, bicycle, pedestrian and public transit. This round of funding has a budget of $6 million, with a maximum award of $1 million per project.
The deadline to apply is Sept. 18. More information, as well as the application link, can be found here.
Since KDOT’s Cost Share Program began in 2019, it has given over $157 million to localities.
“Past Cost Share participants have proven this program to be the financial boost that many small and large communities needed to achieve their project goals,” said Michelle Needham, KDOT’s economic development project manager, in a news release.
The program typically accepts application twice a year, in the spring and then the fall.
Spring 2025 projects included sidewalk improvements in Cimarron, Junction City’s Washington Street Bridge rehabilitation and road resurfacing in Sherman County.
“These Cost Share-funded projects are a prime example of smart government investments," Gov. Laura Kelly said in a news release. "Through infrastructure and transportation improvements, we are making Kansas an even better place to live, to work, and to raise a family.”
