New Jersey Awards $150M to Counties for Infrastructure Repairs and Upgrades
New Jersey Gov. Murphy's administration has announced the allocation of $150 million in Fiscal Year 2026 County Aid to support infrastructure upgrades across New Jersey’s 21 counties.
Funded through the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund, the County Aid program helps counties maintain roads and bridges under their jurisdiction in a state of good repair. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) distributes the funds using a formula based on population and roadway mileage.
“Keeping our transportation infrastructure safe and reliable is among my Administration’s top priorities,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement.
Counties may use the aid for eligible transportation projects, including road and bridge improvements and related work. Each county is responsible for selecting projects and must submit them to NJDOT for approval by Dec. 1.
Transportation Commissioner Fran O’Connor said the funding enables critical infrastructure repairs without increasing local taxes.
As part of a revised schedule signed into law by Murphy, NJDOT must now inform counties of their annual allotments by July 31. Officials say this timeline will allow counties to better plan their transportation programs.
