The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has approved the Fiscal Year 2026-2030 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), one of the largest in state history.

The five-year plan outlines $13.3 billion in transportation investments, including major funding for highways and bridges.

Of the total funding, $9.5 billion is earmarked for contractor awards related to road and bridge construction, averaging about $1.9 billion annually. The plan includes dedicated funding for upgrades to Interstates 70 and 44, low-volume road repairs and critical infrastructure projects across the state.

“This program continues the historic investment we’ve seen in Missouri’s transportation system,” said Ed Hassinger, Missouri Department of Transportation Director, in a statement. “Thanks to increased revenue from the motor fuel tax, General Revenue funds and federal investments, we’re delivering on our commitment to improve safety and reliability for Missouri travelers.”

The STIP outlines projects on Missouri’s 33,814 miles of highways and more than 10,400 bridges and culverts. It also includes detailed information on planned improvements to non-highway modes and outlines maintenance and operations activities through 2029.

The draft plan was released in May for public comment, receiving 73 responses. The final version is now available online at the Missouri Department of Transportation’s website.
