The funding will go to projects aimed at reducing congestion and increasing safety
Aug. 28, 2024

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced a $148 billion investment to upgrade transportation infrastructure. This investment includes a 10-year master plan with projects aimed at improving infrastructure, safety, mobility and maintenance.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) adopted $104 billion from the 10-year transportation plan. Over $43 billion is included for development and maintenance. This is a $5.6 billion increase from 2023, according to the Governor’s Office.

Lubbock will receive $1.4 billion in funds. Improvements include new construction on the Loop 88 freeway projects and a project to construct a new bridge at the Texas/New Mexico state line.

TxDOT also said additional improvements are planned to build alternating passing lanes for State Highway 214 in Cochran County.

Projects are set to be underway for the 2025 Unified Transportation Program. Many of the roads are listed in Texas’ 100 Most Congested Roadway List.

Projects are considered based on how they are addressing areas such as pavement condition, safety, capacity and rural connectivity.
