Seven projects are expected to be completed this year

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced in a press release that there will be 10 major road projects, with seven scheduled to be done this year.

Funding of nearly $250 million will be coming from Rebuild Illinois, a capital plan that aims to create jobs and develop infrastructure.

“Rebuild Illinois is revitalizing communities and neighborhoods by investing in projects and people in the Peoria area and throughout the state,” said Gov. J.B. Pritzker in a press release. “Through the largest capital program in state history, IDOT will be delivering improvements to build a more resilient, accessible and equitable system of transportation for generations to come, while creating jobs and enhancing local quality of life.”

Some of the projects include:

  • Illinois 8/116 Cedar Street extension which will include bridge rehabilitation, patching, and resurfacing. Work is anticipated to be completed in November 2025.
  • Interstate 55 over Indian Creek is a bridge replacement that is scheduled to be completed this fall.
  • Interstate 74 from north of U.S. 34 to Woodhull will have resurfacing, pavement markings, drainage work, and seeding. It is expected to be completed in October of this year.

There are over $2 billion in road and highway projects to begin in the Peoria-area between 2025 and 2030. These projects will be funded by state dollars.

One project is a major part of IDOT’s highway improvement plan with construction happening on the McClugage Bridge. Work includes a new deck, superstructure rehabilitation, painting, and engineering costing $76 million.

A 2.6 mile stretch of Illinois route 29 will introduce a bikeway, and bi-directional left turn lane. A total of $64.5 million has been tabbed for the project to begin between 2025 and 2030.

A reconstruction project costing $44.7 million will happen on Lincoln Avenue and Howett Street.

Lastly, a bridge on Adams Street that runs over the BNSF railroad will receive $59 million for a rebuild.
