Under TxDOT's newly approved 2024 Unified Transportation Program (UTP) which contains $142 billion for infrastructure improvements, major San Antonio highways, including Loop 1604, are set for improvements.
"Through this record transportation investment project, the State of Texas will further improve roadway congestion and safety to meet the growing needs of Texans in our large metros, rural communities, and everywhere in between," Abbott said in press release.
The updated UTP includes funding for various transportation industries and projects for numerous highways across TxDOT's 25 districts. Here's what's in the plan for the Alamo city's highways:
I-35 Northeast Expansion (3 projects)
- Total estimated cost: $875,960,000 million
- Estimated project timeline: 2024-2033
Loop 410 interchange at Highway 281 and I-35 Northeast Expansion
- Total estimated cost: $244,500,000 million
- Estimated project timeline: 2024-2027
Highway 90 upgrades (3 projects)
- Total estimated cost: $403,900,000 million
- Estimated project timeline: 2024-2033
Loop 1604 widening on Far Southwest Side and Far Northeast Side
- Total estimated cost: $600,200,000 million
- Estimated project timeline: 2024-2033
