Utah Transit Authority approves five-year plan for transit construction projects

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) board recently approved a five-year, $463 million plan for transit construction projects and new equipment.
According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the plan includes $18.6 million to relocate the TRAX rail station at Salt Lake City International Airport, $91.9 million for a new bus rapid transit (BRT) line in Ogden, and $48.6 million for a maintenance and fueling station in Salt Lake City.
The plan also calls for new vehicle purchases through 2024 and to double-track part of the FrontRunner train line in Utah County. The plan counts on using $70.9 million in money borrowed by issuing bonds.
The new BRT line in Ogden is the most expensive part of the UTA plan. The line would stretch from downtown Ogden to Weber State University and McKay Dee Hospital. The plan calls for 13 stations, 1.8 miles of exclusive bus lanes, and a transit center on the university campus. Work is scheduled for completion in 2022.
