Aug. 14, 2015

Infrastructure developments to be vetted via proposal process

The Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) has announced the availability of funds through its Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and is requesting proposals for projects which fit criteria intended to augment the state’s Toward Zero Deaths initiative and curb the steady and ongoing degradation of its present roads system, while increasing multimodal access.

According to a press release by the NDOR, the criteria are:

· Construction, planning, and design of trail facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other non-motorized forms of transportation;

· Construction, planning, and design of infrastructure-related projects and systems that will provide safe routes for non-drivers, including children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities to access daily needs;

· Conversion and use of abandoned railroad corridors for trails for pedestrians, bicyclists, or other non-motorized transportation users; and

· The Safe Routes to School Program (infrastructure projects only).

Information on the application process can be found at:

http://www.transportation.nebraska.gov/trans-enhance/apply.htm.

TAP funding is 80% funded by the federal government and requires 20% matching funds to be provided by local public agencies.
