Paved and unpaved roadway surfaces built over weak subgrades can degrade due to base deterioration that causes deflections, rutting and cracking in the surface layer. Using the GEOWEB stabilization system reduces the vertical pressure and provides a high-stiffness foundation, thereby increasing the load capacity of the sub grade to more effectively handle heavy and repeated vehicle loads. In the base layer under hard pavements, confinement of aggregate significantly reduces movement and settlement for increased pavement life. Unpaved pavements also benefit with a more stable surface that performs as an on-site stormwater ‘detention’ basin for infiltration at the source and runoff reduction.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the benefits of using the GEOWEB soil stabilization system to stabilize surfaces for unpaved roads using low quality fill.
  • Discover how 3D confined base material reduces cross-section and provides a more stable base, especially over soft subgrade soils.
  • Learn how the GEOWEB stabilization system reduces vertical pressure and subbase movement.
  • Learn how to design pavement that will help meet onsite stormwater regulations and low environmental impact goals.
COMPANY PROFILE:

Presto Geosystems partners with engineers and designers to solve challenging soil stabilization problems with the original 3D geocell system—GEOWEB. Fill confined in the versatile HDPE 3D structure remains stable under the heaviest loading to deliver economic benefits in a variety of applications. Construct roadways and shoulders with on-site fill, control erosion on steep slopes and shorelines, design channels to resist all hydraulic conditions, build naturally vegetated retaining walls with a longer-life, low environmental impact solution. Presto Geo systems offers free project evaluations, an easy spec building tool, free licensed MSE wall design software and over 35 years of experience in markets ranging from general site construction to mining, oil & gas, railroads, wind, and green building.
