Tony Perrotti, operations manager for JR Hayes Corp., a site development contractor in the Pacific Northwest, has been in the industry for 31 years and understands the demands jobsites place on equipment—and more specifically the tires that keep jobsite equipment moving. Facing poor underfoot conditions, he outfitted his Caterpillar 735 articulated dump truck with Firestone VersaBuilt tires.
“I’ve been struggling to get my trucks around,” Perrotti said. “With the VersaBuilt tires, traction and overall control are a night-and-day difference.”
Versatile Design
Maximizing uptime is always top of mind for construction companies. The Firestone VersaBuilt tire line is designed to keep operations moving regardless of the jobsite terrain. These tires feature a steel casing and SideArmor sidewalls to protect against cuts and punctures by deflecting stone and debris, as well as a non-directional, self-cleaning tread pattern for added traction in conditions ranging from rocky to muddy surfaces.
“Downtime is huge,” Perrotti said. “When you have one truck go down, you easily have three to five hours of lost productivity to repair a flat or get a new tire. We had several flat tires due to wire mesh in the concrete on one of our sites, which resulted in significant downtime. Since we switched to the Firestone VersaBuilt tires, we haven’t had any downtime.”
The tire is also made of a tough tread compound for wear life and is backed by a five-year limited warranty.
