Caterpillar has introduced a suite of new technologies aimed at improving job site safety and machine efficiency, including a Collision Warning system for medium wheel loaders and enhanced Grade and Payload technologies for its 2025 excavator lineup.
The Collision Warning option is now available for Cat medium wheel loader models 950 through 982. It includes object and people detection, along with a motion inhibit feature that prevents reverse movement if an object or person is detected in a critical zone, according to a report originally published on ConstructionEquipment.com, Roads & Bridges’ sister publication at Endeavor Business Media.
The system uses a combination of radar and vision sensors to alert operators and automatically apply brakes when necessary.
Color-coded alert zones—yellow, amber and red—appear on the in-cab monitor to indicate hazard proximity, with red signaling immediate action. The system highlights detected people using red bounding boxes for added visibility.
For its 2025 excavators, Caterpillar is also rolling out new user interfaces and upgrades to Cat Grade and Payload systems. Standard Cat Grade with 2D now includes advanced features, such as joystick-based target depth and slope control. Grade with 3D is available as a factory-installed option.
Cat Payload has also been upgraded with a new interface and an optional Advanced Payload system. It enables precise on-the-go weighing, customizable reporting and integration with VisionLink for remote tracking of material moved and job site performance.
These updates aim to enhance safety, streamline operator tasks and improve productivity across a variety of earthmoving applications, according to the company.
