Kenworth T880S Mixer with McNeilus Bridgemaster Package provides major donation to RMC Research & Education Foundation
Sept. 24, 2018—A Kenworth T880S bridge formula mixer chassis, recently sold during online bidding, will provide a major contribution to the RMC Research & Education Foundation, thanks to Kenworth, McNeilus, NorCal Kenworth and other participating Kenworth supplier partners. Other contributing supplier sponsors of equipment for the Kenworth T880S are Meritor (axles), Hendrickson (rear suspension), Watson & Chalin (lift axle), Alcoa (wheels), Bridgestone (tires) and Allison Transmission (transmission). The T880S was provided by Kenworth and NorCal Kenworth, and was purchased by Concrete Supply Co. in Charlotte, N.C. One hundred percent of the net proceeds go to the RMC Research & Education Foundation.
Ron Roberts to receive Distinguished Service Award from American Public Transportation Association (APTA)
Sept. 20, 2018—The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) Board of Directors announced that San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts will receive the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) 2018 Distinguished Service Award at its annual meeting in Nashville, Tenn. from Sept. 23-26. The award is annually given to an individual who has made significant contributions at the local level to public transportation through policy, legislative initiative and leadership. Due to term limits, Roberts’ run as an MTS board member comes to a close at the end of 2018 after more than 30 years of service. Roberts led the renaissance of public transportation in San Diego from almost all fronts—first as a San Diego city council member and then as a county supervisor. In addition to the MTS board, Roberts has tirelessly been a voice on the boards of SANDAG (the regional MPO)—including two years as its chairman, the California Air Resources Board, the San Diego Air Pollution Control District (both for 23 years), and many more.
Illinois Tollway receives Economic Development in Illinois Award for delivery of new Illinois Rte. 390 Tollway
Sept. 20, 2018—The new Illinois Rte. 390 Tollway received an Economic Development in Illinois Award on Sept. 20, crediting the Illinois Tollway’s investment with delivery of new business and job growth in the region. The 10th annual Economic Development in Illinois Awards—the Edies—honor outstanding economic development projects completed in 2017 that bring jobs, growth and prosperity to Illinois communities. The Illinois Chamber of Commerce Edie Awards are supported by the Illinois Economic Development Association and sponsored by Nicor Gas. The Illinois Tollway’s $780 million investment in the new Illinois Rte. 390 Tollway delivered 10 miles of highway speed roadway from Hanover Park to Wood Dale with six new or improved interchanges, including a new free-flow I-290 Interchange, along with complementary improvements to accommodate local traffic. The new roadway is expected to reduce travel time by more than seven minutes for the trip between the western side of O’Hare Airport and Lake Street—a savings of 25%.

Transportation expert Jennifer Carrier joins HNTB as Connecticut office leader
Sept. 12, 2018—Jennifer Carrier, P.E., joined HNTB Corp. as Connecticut office leader and associate vice president. With 25 years of transportation engineering experience, Carrier oversees HNTB’s operations throughout the state from the firm’s Rocky Hill office. Before joining HNTB, Carrier served as director of transportation planning for the Capitol Region Council of Governments in Hartford. In that role she worked extensively with the Connecticut Department of Transportation as well as municipalities, federal officials, and transit agencies to develop solutions for complex transportation projects, including funding and financing. Previously, Carrier was CRCOG’s principal transportation engineer.
