Vollmer Associates, an engineering, architecture, planning, surveying and landscape architecture firm, has acquired the Philadelphia engineering firm of Barton & Martin Engineers.

Barton & Martin Engineers, a 75-year-old firm, is well known for survey and utility systems design, among other services. Headquartered in New York City, Vollmer Associates is a 45-year-old firm with over 500 employees in 14 offices throughout the northeast. Vollmer has a strong presence in the Delaware Valley with offices in Kennett Square, Aston, Wilmington and Mount Laurel, in addition to Philadelphia.

Recent Vollmer projects include a 25-acre expansion of recreation facilities in Smedley Park, a traffic impact study for the new Chester County Justice Center in West Chester, Pa., and extensive survey and environmental services for the New Castle County Department of Special Services in Delaware.

The combined firms will practice under the name Barton & Martin, a division of Vollmer Associates. William Martin, P.E., will manage the engineering practice while Jeremy Alvarez, AICP, will serve as district manager.
