The wheel loader is a key piece of equipment on a road construction site. Several original equipment manufacturers (OEM) have introduced new choices to the 200-horsepower category with more electric machines on the horizon.
Other alternative power solutions such as hydrogen may be coming down the pike, according to Roads and Bridges’ sister publication Construction Equipment.
The below listed wheel loaders are the predominant few capturing the eyes of equipment managers for large-scale projects.
Case 821G
At 40,057 pounds and 230-horsepower, a more efficient factory-integrated payload system allows operators to more accurately load and top off trucks and hoppers, improve cycle times and ensure the operator is delivering the correct amount of material.
Caterpillar 995
Caterpillar’s 995 wheel loader features up to 19% increased productivity than the previous model with its higher rated payload and 6% increase in hydraulic force with equal hydraulic cycle time, according to the company. Enhanced Eco Mode delivers up to 13% lower hourly fuel consumption and offers up to an additional 8% efficiency gain.
Develon Dash 7 Series
Technologies such as Transparent Bucket which allows operators to see through the bucket using cameras mounted on the wheel loader, and an around view monitor (AVM) camera system and object detection system come standard on Dash 7 loaders. The AVM system provides up to 270 degrees of visibility for the operator.
LiuGong 856HE
A battery-electric unit with a 10.2-hour working time capability in light applications and 7.2 in heavy applications. A fast-charging capability brings 240 kWh in 1.3 hours. A 5-year or 10,000-hour warranty for the battery, motor, and controller are standard.
JCB 457
A 282-horsepower unit featuring auto engine shutdown that kicks in during idling to save fuel. A choice of loader arms and axle options are available to suit various applications.
