Webinar overview:

There has never been a more challenging time in transportation than today.  Transportation professionals must increasingly manage complex transportation systems under continually constrained revenues.  This trend is occurring in the context of a dynamically changing regulatory environment, which requires a greater emphasis on comprehensive information systems to help support better decision-making regarding where and how scarce public resources are allocated.

In part shaped by the requirements of MAP-21 and the FAST Act, transportation agencies are increasingly evolving to become data-driven organizations, and to be more strategic in the way they plan, and deliver their infrastructure.  Transportation agencies must adopt a performance-based approach to decision-making, and demonstrate they have a comprehensive plan for effectively maintaining their existing infrastructure as part of their overall investment decisions.

All these trends significantly impact the way DOTs conduct their planning processes. Collaboration and communication within and among agencies are becoming much more important. This highlights the need for robust and accessible information systems to support increasingly complex management and decision support processes.

This webinar will highlight how geographic information systems (GIS) and location intelligence can help agencies adopt a more comprehensive planning approach, but also support more strategic decisions throughout the transportation planning process.

Speakers:

Terry Bills
Global Transportation Industry Manager
Esri

Terry has over 25 years' experience in transportation planning and policy, information technology and GIS. Mr. Bills has been a Principle Planner for a large regional transportation planning agency, as well as the President of a GIS and transportation consulting firm during his career. He was a Doctoral Candidate at UCLA, where he was also awarded two Masters' degrees.

Keith King
Transportation Account Manager
Esri

Keith has helped DOTs use ArcGIS to get the most out of their existing IT systems and data through the establishment of a System of Engagement. Mr. King leads a cross-divisional discovery process and oversees the development of a related implementation plan for connecting the agency's disparate business systems. The process results in a plan for generating multiple "quick wins" as well as a roadmap for establishing a single destination where authorized users access maps and apps, analyze authoritative data, and share contributions. He attended West Virginia University where he obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering.
