The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced $1.7 billion in construction work on 248 projects across Northeast Ohio on Tuesday.
The projects include the repaving of Interstate 90 in three cities in Cuyahoga County, which is estimated at $136 million.
On Tuesday, the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission said that it has a budget of $254 million for improvements to the toll road. That includes renovations in Cuyahoga, Portage, and Summit Counties.
Of the ODOT projects, 193 of the 248 will begin this year. About one in six are intended to reduce serious crashes.
In Cuyahoga County, crews will repave I-90 between Hilliard Boulevard and the I-71-I-490 interchange, a route that passes through Rocky River, Lakewood, and Cleveland. It will begin this summer and end in 2027.
In Summit County, work will continue on the High Level Bridge on Ohio 8 in Akron. Construction began last summer, and it will continue until the summer of 2028. The project will cost $157 million.
ODOT is also nearing the completion of a $11 million project in Port Clinton, dubbed the Gateway to the Islands.
The intersection safety improvement project constructed a roundabout at the westbound leg of Ohio 2/Ohio 53; constructed a roundabout at the Ohio 53 and State Road intersection; widened Ohio 53 (S.E. Catawba Road) from the interchange to Ohio 163; added a two-way center turn lane throughout the corridor; added sidewalk, and upgraded curb ramps.
The project is expected to be completed this coming summer. The roundabout at Ohio 53 and State Road opened in November. The roundabout at Ohio 2 is expected to open late this week.
