Officials in Los Lunas, Ariz. are looking for ways to improve traffic for the expanding village.

“We have been diligently working on this project, some of you may know, for decades,” Village of Los Lunas Administrator Gregory Martin told lawmakers in a House Transportation and Public Works Committee meeting on Tuesday, February 6. “We are hoping to begin construction later this year.”

The dea is to build a new connection from Los Lunas to Interstate 25 and to construct another bridge over the Rio Grande.

According to Martin, the bridge is "essential" because villaghe residentss currently only have one roadway option to go from the village to the east side of the Rio Grande to the freeway running on the west side of the river.

Some lawmakers are asking for $85 million via House Bill 286 to move the project forward.

The project has already received over $50 million for engineering, right-of-way acquisition, and construction, according to an analysis by the Legislative Finance Committee.

“There’s no way to widen the exit that’s there now, so we’re wanting to put in a new exit,” Rep. Gail Armstrong said. “We have secured several different chunks of money to begin this project.”
