The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) approved a $75.9 million contract to build the USA Parkway connecting I-80 to U.S. 50 via the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center.
Ames Construction won the contract bid $2 million below the next lowest bidder. The road project will be completed 125 days ahead of the Dec. 31, 2017 deadline.
The company plans to begin work this spring with phase one, which will improve the existing six miles of paved roadway from the I-80 interchange into the industrial center. Crews will then work on the four miles of graded gravel roadway, followed by construction of the remaining 8.5 miles of road through the Virginia Range to U.S. 50 at Opal Lane, Nev.
The project will not include improvement to the interchange at Patrick, Nev., according to Assistant NDOT Director for Engineering John Terry.
“We did not want to make that interchange part of this design-build project because that added in other complications,” Terry told NDOT.
