Utah DOT to install largest precast bridge beams in state history on I-15

Dec. 12, 2018

The massive beams are 203 ft long and 98 in. tall

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is preparing this week to install the largest precast bridge beams ever in the state of Utah.

The massive concrete beams will impact traffic this week as they are placed along the I-15 technology corridor in Lehi.

Forterra Structural Precast created the massive beams, which are 203 ft long and 98 in. tall. There are six beams in total, each one weighing nearly 250,000 lb. The beams are slated to be installed on the bridge over the railroad tracks between 2100 North and State Street starting as early as Wednesday of this week, weather permitting.

These beams are among the last pieces of the puzzle that will allow UDOT to widen the freeway in northern Utah County from four to six lanes in one of the fastest growing parts of the state.
