The dead of winter slowed the pulse of a few commutes around Toledo, Ohio, last year. Potholes were alive and well on I-75 bridges, creating unexpected lane closures to make necessary repairs.
Officials are taking a more preventive approach this time around, and on Nov. 4 crews started inspecting the decks of spans to make sure they were ready for the cold months ahead.
Vernon Nagle Inc. was hired to perform almost $400,000 worth of work on I-75 bridges between Glenwood, Ohio, and the I-280 interchange in North Toledo.
“The project will help minimize emergency repairs over the winter when they are most difficult,” said Ohio DOT Deputy Director Todd Audet.
During the 2013-14 winter, bridge lanes were shut down for days due to potholes and the extreme temperatures, and this season Vernon Nagle Inc. will be responsible—as part of the contract—for those fixes as well.
