Rehabilitation work will happen from June 15 to August 9

Motorists in South Bend, Indiana will see some rehabilitation work this summer on the Angela Boulevard Bridge over the St. Joseph River that will run for roughly 2 months.

Drivers can expect the rehabilitation work to happen from June 15 to August 9. According to St. Joseph County Engineer Sky Medors, the bridge may close 3 days earlier, and open 3 days later than the posted dates.

Motorists will be redirected via Indiana 933, LaSalle Avenue, Lincoln Way and Portage Avenue.

Medors said Milestone Construction North, with an office in South Bend, won the contract to do the work at a cost of $407,899, which will be paid for with the county’s Major Cumulative Bridge Fund.

Work on the 339-foot bridge will include a new bridge deck overlay, new expansion joints, new reinforced concrete on the bridge approach, a sidewalk with curbs and a bike ramp, asphalt paving, repair of the bridge railing and tree clearing.

The county also plans to upgrade the following bridges in coming years:

  • Main Street over the Indiana Toll Road in Mishawaka in 2023.
  • Colfax Avenue over the St. Joseph River in South Bend in 2024.
  • Portage Avenue over the Indiana Toll Road in South Bend in 2025.
