More than $6 million has been awarded to replace or repair 12 bridges in nine Kentucky counties and one city.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) shared in a press release that the state funding will help support daily travel by repairing, replacing and reopening bridges currently limiting access for residents.

All 12 structures are either closed to traffic or operating under weight restrictions, the release states. Ten bridges will be fully replaced, while two will undergo repairs or preservation work to extend their service life.

Major bridge projects in Ballard, Hickman and Crittenden counties — as well as the City of Flemingsburg — are included in the funding package, according to KBSI Fox23 News.

Projects Span Nine Counties and Flemingsburg

In Flemingsburg, $510,000 has been allocated to demolish and rebuild the Cemetery Lane bridge over Town Branch Creek, including installation of 100 tons of channel lining to prevent erosion and support water flow, according to the KYTC press release.

Two projects in Crittenden County received funding: $780,000 for the full replacement and 30-foot extension of the Copperas Spring Road bridge, and $590,000 to replace the Nunn Switch #2 bridge.

Hickman County was awarded $570,000 to replace and lengthen the Springhill Road bridge, while Ballard County received $372,000 to replace the Morning Meadows bridge, the release states.

These projects mark the fifth round of funding through the County and City Bridge Improvement program, which aims to enhance local infrastructure and improve statewide travel safety, according to KBSI Fox23 News.
