Texas Bridge Project Delayed Due to Theft

It has set construction back three months

A theft has pushed a bridge construction project back, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT). This comes after the project had already been delayed because of a lack of progress made from a previous contractor, causing the project to be rebid.

"Due to a recent theft of construction materials, the project timeline on the Amarillo Boulevard and BNSF Railroad bridge project has been delayed by an anticipated three months," the announcement on Facebook says. "TxDOT will provide additional updates as the project progresses."

The theft has pushed the project back approximately three months due to the time it takes to replace the stolen materials, according to Jason Britsch, public information officer for TxDOT.

“We were just made aware of it, and so with that being said the contractor had to, of course, order those new materials and that’s going to be pushing back the project time,” said Britsch.

Britsch says there will be crews out doing basic maintenance work in order to pick back up as soon as the supplies are replaced.

The project is one of several construction projects that are underway in the Amarillo area.
