Demolition Set for Bridge Project in Scranton

Doing this demolition overnight allows PennDOT to keep the busy road open

A former floral shop in Scranton, Pa. will see demolition work as part of a $20 million bridge renovation project.

Yesterday, signs went up to alert drivers  that the bridge on Green Ridge Street will be closed from 9 p.m. Monday night until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) say the former floral shop is being demolished to make way for a temporary bridge.

Doing this demolition overnight allows PennDOT to keep the busy road open, but drivers are still being asked to remain cautious in the work zone.

“Any time we are in a construction zone we want people to slow down, make sure that you’re paying attention, and expect the unexpected, we would never want someone not to go home to their family,” said Community Relations Coordinator Jessica Ruddy.

This is the only time during the bridge project on Green Ridge Street that there will be a detour in place. Foot traffic will be maintained throughout the project.
