Philadelphia's I-95 CAP Project to Close Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge for 4 Years

This $329 million plan will improve pedestrian and multi-modal access between Center City and the Delaware River Waterfront

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is beginning a major project Tuesday that aims to expand and improve the covered section of Interstate 95, between Chestnut Street and Walnut Street in Philadelphia.

The closure of the bridge will begin Tuesday and end in 2027.

According to officials, pedestrians will have to use Dock Street to cross I-95 during construction.

This is all a part of PennDOT's $329 million plan which will improve pedestrian and multi-modal access between Center City and the Delaware River Waterfront

The South Street Pedestrian Bridge over I-9 also will be extended over Columbus Boulevard with a new structure: a tied arch bridge. They centerpiece of the project will be a pedestrian-friendly park.
