The Sherman Minton Bridge in Louisville is set to reopen next week after completely shutting down last week.

The bridge shut down last Thursday after officials said there was an issue with the bridge deck that had to be repaired immediately.

Officials are now saying that plans to make the repairs have been finalized and the bridge is expected to reopen next Monday, August 7, prior to the morning rush hour.

As the bridge is closed, motorists have had to find alternative routes to get to their destination.

This is not the first closure for the structure. The upper deck of the bridge was closed on July 27 when crews found a problem with the bearing that supports it on the Kentucky approach. They closed the lower deck in addition just to be safe.

Officials say that crews have been evaluating and developing plans to make the repairs since the closures took effect.

Both the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) have been procuring materials from supplies that are needed to make the repairs. Some of the materials are being shipped from as far away as Texas which have caused delays, officials said.

Materials began arriving over the weekend, and officials say more are expected to come in through Wednesday.
