Construction to the highly anticipated I-64 St. Albans-Nitro bridge in Nitro, West Virginia was temporarily halted Thursday, June 29, after a motor powering a pile driver caught fire.

The pile driver that was responsible for embedding steel supports into the ground on the eastern side of the bridge was halted as a result.

Expedient responses from the Nitro and Teays Valley fire departments ensured that the fire was put out, preventing further damage.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the brief fire. Despite the temporary interruption, the incident did not have an effect on the overall progress of the construction project.

Interstate traffic flow and all other aspects of the project remained unaffected for the duration of the incident.
