Interstate 81 northbound and southbound in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania will be closed for several nights this week for bridge work.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will complete work on the Suscon Road overpass bridge from 8 p.m. to 5 p.m. starting Tuesday, June 27, through Friday June 30.
Work will alternate between lanes each day according to the following schedule:
- Tuesday, June 27 - Interstate 81 northbound
- Wednesday, June 28 – Interstate 81 southbound
- Thursday, June 29 – Interstate 81 northbound and tentatively southbound
- Friday, June 30 - Interstate 81 northbound or southbound
PennDOT will be implementing two detours, one from Interstate 81 northbound where drivers will be able to take Exit 175 ( 175 (Dupont/Pittston) to Route 315 to the Interstate 81 on-ramp in Avoca.
The second detour will be from Interstate 81 southbound, where drivers can take Exit 178 (Avoca) to Route 315 to the Interstate 81 on-ramp in Dupont/Pittston.
