No. 9 - Manayunk Bridge

Jan. 2, 2016

Considered the “crown jewel” of the Delaware Valley trail network, the Manayunk holds an iconic status for its position as a connection in the 130-mile Schuylkill River Trail. The team developed a series of cross sections and plan views to illustrate pedestrian and bicyclist interactions. As the bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, existing concrete post-and-pipe railings needed to be retained and supplemented with fencing that complies with current codes while meeting the preservation design requirements. As a result, designers implemented a removable, modular fencing and railing system that bolted onto the existing railings.
