The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), a trade association dedicated to making America's roadways safer, has announced its strong support for the nomination of Mary Peters as the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

"Both as Secretary of the Arizona Department of Transportation, and during her term as the Federal Highway Administrator (2001 - 2005), Mary was a champion of roadway safety, which she designated as one of her 'vital few' priorities," said ATSSA President Peter Speer. "She has also been a leader in raising public awareness of work-zone fatalities and injuries, and personally participated in an ATSSA-sponsored National Work Zone Awareness Week kick-off event. We're delighted that the President has nominated a strong advocate of roadway safety as the next DOT Secretary."
